There's something about Annihilation that gets me thinking philosophically. This book is packed with suspense and thriller that even the slight reveal had me gasping. There were several times I had to stop reading because I was getting a bit spooked. This isn't a horror book, but it is a suspenseful thriller about an alien-infested environment.

As you read the story, many theories are running through your head. I have many I tried thinking of as how the story would unfold. Few times I was right; many times I was gasping because the plot unveiled something that I hadn't thought of.

You follow the main character and her discovery about Area X, and witness the horrors of it with her. While she's experiencing Area X, she's also thinking about her husband, who also was apart of a previous expedition before hers. The circumstance of being in Area X is such a mystery, and through the main protagonist, you uncover why.

I like this genre of thriller, where the environment is the horror. It adds a level of paranoia to the story because you don't know what's gonna happen to the women or what they'll uncover, as they are exploring. Plus, the writing is pretty great and it's told coherently as it's describing the scenery and situation.
SpoilerThe description of the psychologist's broken body was pretty unsettling.
