Waking the Dragon by Juliette Cross

3.0

2.5.
Gosh. This book has so so so so so much potential and that’s how it started out.
The world building and the story was so interesting and cool and I like the characters (pretended she was like 25 instead of 20).
But…
The pacing is off in this book. It felt like 45% of the book happened off-page, and not in a good way.
Idk if it was a crappy editor who screwed the author over or what, but the pacing is. So. Off.
No “breathing” places. Action after action. We need more moments to get to know the characters, and for the characters to get to know each other.
It all happens in like a week- very much insta-love but even more than that.
It feels like a lot of things in general was just skipped and cut. Which brings down my score.
It had so much potential fr. I loved the murder mystery, wish it would have been investigated more as to why or how but it’s just brushed over.
It just feels like it was put through a slicer and again- not in a good way.
The book should’ve been 20-30% longer with moments of quiet and to get to know them.
She went from “I’m better than other girls and don’t sleep around” to her wanting him in like 2 pages.
It just made it hard to connect or root for them. Feels like I don’t even know them or how it happened after finishing the whole book.
Sad. Because I loved the set up and how the story could’ve evolved. The relationships as well.
