I had read The Thief many years ago and had forgotten nearly everything -- including that I shouldn't underestimate our main character, Gen. For a story that's mostly just following a small group of men and boys trekking across the mountains, this book shouldn't be as entertaining as it is. 

I adore this book and can't wait to continue (re)reading the series.
