This book is a classic mystery. A dead woman , a lm apartment building full of tenants with secrets, and two detectives unraveling the tale.

A woman is found dead in an apartment buildings elevator late one night by two men- a drunk playboy and a fastidious doctor.

Translated from Argentina Spanish- the book translates well and is not cumbersome. It was fun to read a classic mystery from another country and there were elements that hinted at the future tropes of domestic thrillers. It was neat reading about a female authors cultural perspective in 1950s Argentina. And there are interesting tidbits about what it was like to have German migrants move to your country after ww2.

I didn’t rank it higher because some of the story elements were messy I didn’t get invested in characters as much as I’d like.
