The Mist by Ragnar Jónasson

3.0

This is the third book in the Hidden Iceland trilogy. I’m not sure if I really liked the approach Ragnar Jonasson took when writing this trilogy. They are in reverse order. Book one is at the end of Detective Inspector Hulda Hermannsdottir’s career, book two is at the middle of her career, and book three is in the beginning. It was really strange reading about her personal life backwards, especially since we learn so much about it in book one.

That said, what a creepy thriller this one was. An elderly couple live in a very isolated area of Iceland. Around Christmas when there is a particularly bad snowstorm, they are stranded and unable to leave. Roads are never plowed going up to their home. So, when someone comes knocking on their door, they let him in. But they start wondering where he came from and why he is really there.

I’m now a new fan of Ragnar Jonasson.
