Voices in the Snow by Darcy Coates

2.5

What a ride-the pacing is all over the place here. This probably reads well if you Don’t know it’s a series. If you view it as a Cloverfield/Resident Evil send up with no expectations, then this might work really well.

So if you don’t know anything else and you like Darcy Coates, STOP and just read it. I can’t promise you’ll enjoy it but you’ll probably enjoy it more than I did.

If you do already know, I thought it wrecked the pacing bc so much of this book is a slow burn before I truly insane ending. I did enjoy the ending, I started getting that “horror puzzle” vibe I love so much from Darcy Coates’ books.

I’m not fully satisfied with the resolution, but since it is a series I will hold off judging it for that bc idk how it might get addressed later.

I think there’s supposed to be paranoia making the beginning 2/3ds tense and exciting but I had none of that and found it too slow and was waiting to get to the good stuff. I enjoy how much more Resident Evil it is than I was expecting; the ending was enough that I will probably read Book 2.
