The Rainmaker by John Grisham

4.0

This is a really great book if you wanna get into courtroom dramas, but the ending was horrible (in my very humble opinion).

AND can we talk about the love interest for a second? Why does she pop up at random times without any context and then disappear for long stretches of times like she doesn’t even exist? I am sorry, but the character just seemed unnecessary, and existing only for adding a vaguely developed romance subplot. If only she had been given more time and a few scenes portraying her personality, she would’ve made a good character, but her spasmodic character development spoiled it for me.

If Grisham had stopped writing after the verdict, and cut out all the unnecessary details about the protagonist and his love interest at the end, this book could’ve been a solid five star. Overall, it met all the expectations I had from it, except for the ending, which was kind of like smelling an old shoe after walking through a lavender meadow.
