Sea of Glory: America's Voyage of Discovery, the U.S. Exploring Expedition, 1838-1842 by Nathaniel Philbrick

Really found this to be fascinating. The author is clearly an authority and has done his research. His narrative is both engrossing and researched. He has an opinion and that is presented, but he also shares the facts and lets the reader evaluate them based upon the context and the times.

It is fascinating to think of exploration in this time period. With today's total connectivity, to read about such a disconnected process and trip was worthwhile in its own right. To consider how alone one would be sailing around the Pacific not even including the trip to Antarctica. Amazing.
