Fun book! I love exploring the world of Star Wars beyond just the Sith and the Jedi, or the Empire and the Republic. The fact that I liked the stories about unknown characters better just proves that point. Obi-Wan’s tale (his name is never mentioned, but c’mon, it is him) is nice, especially as an opener for the book. But the one about the tactical droid is kinda disappointing. While it focused on Grievous, due to his past being such a mystery, it got me hooked. But then we just changed course and it suddenly became about this unnamed droid? Weird decision, I guess. Still, I had a very good time reading most of this book, it reminded just how interesting and rich Star Wars can be.
Now for my ranking of the stories:
1. The Black Spyre: it felt like a fairytale;
2. The Wanderer: cool silent Jedi protector;
3. Gaze of Stone: creepy Sith shenanigans, it works really well as a horror story;
4. The Witch and the Wookie: another one that felt like a fairytale. Very Hamsel and Gretel/Goldilocks;
5. Vengeful Waves: Felt like religious text (in a good way!);
6. The Dark Wraith: I just wish they hadn’t included the part about misbehaving children, otherwise it would’ve been one of the best. Very dark and foreboding. I also like how it mirrors “The Wanderer”;
7. The Droid with a Heart: It was great to know more about General Grievous! The ending is cute too;
8. Chasing Ghosts: It’s not a bad story, but compared to the best ones, it’s just okay.
