This story felt like even more of a mess than the first one. The plot was pretty convoluted and I didn’t care for the characters as much. I listened to this one in BBC audio drama format like the first one, and Olivia Coleman’s character was reduced to a minor minor character and didn’t have as much of a part.

I also found I didn’t like Dirk quite as much given his rather callous dealings with people and he didn’t have the charming Richard (Billy Boyd) to bounce off of. I think this could have been a better series if the eccentric dirk had someone kinder and sweeter to balance him, like a Sherlock Watson situation.
