Crucible: A Thriller, by James Rollins

4.0

I really enjoyed this book. I don't think that it beats the Demon Crown for me (by far my favorite Sigma novel yet), but it is pretty up there. I think he really upped the stakes this time around, and I was able to accurately guess how everything was going to work out in the end, so that might speak to his growing predictability with these novels. That's also part of the reason it's 4 instead of 5 stars.

The second reason is the technicality of this book. Rollins usually excels at parsing down really complex scientific ideas for his readers, but this book remained too complex. A lot of the time with Eve and *other* Eve I skimmed it or just didn't bother to attempt reading. But the plot and overall story makes this a definite 4/5 from me.

Also, as a note, the Costco alternate ending was BRUTAL.
