This is my favorite of Abe's novels. It's a book about a man who lives in a cardboard box, but it's a book about social anxiety. To read this book is to suffer with its writer. There is no levity in this book, though there are some head-tilting moments. Abe has some interesting ideas in here about how media was perceived and consumed that still feel true today. This book is, in my opinion, ageless.
