La Conquête de l'espace - Vol. 1 by Anthony Simon, Benjamin Brard, Alex Alice

3.0

After Seraphin’s mother disappears while searching for aether, her lost logbook surfaces in Bavaria and Seraphin and his father are called to retrieve it. But the king that holds the logbook longs to conquer the stars himself. Can Seraphin and his father avoid the earthly dangers as well as those held in space?

This is a great middle grade steampunk graphic novel that takes readers on a “what if” journey: what if space travel began in 1869 and not 1969? The artwork is amazing though, at times, the story seemed to skip rather than flow. I enjoyed Seraphin and the friends he makes at the castle and, once I got a third of the way into the story, I liked where this was going. Will Seraphin and his dad find the elusive aether his mother searched for? Keep reading to find out, eh?
