It took me way longer than I expected to read through this book. I did not get used to its dense description and meandering language, but I did not hate it either. I appreciated magical realism, and the dream-like quality of the book. It felt personal, vulnerable, and sincere. I'll always love something if it has good heart. I did find myself at moments just, waiting for the next thing to happen though. I alternated mediums from reading the book to listening to the audio book, and found listening was much easier to follow along, but also required more patience. I did really enjoy the story, and felt for the main character and her insecurities. She needed love and warmth and I wish Max and Ava had stayed a little longer to be the people Samantha needed at the time. Of course, she needed to be those people on her own; understandable. Ultimately I enjoyed the last part significantly more than the rest, but still found it to be enjoyable and worth my time.
