Daredevil: Born Again by Frank Miller, David Mazzucchelli

4.0

This was my first encounter with Daredevil, but not the first when it comes to Frank Miller. And let me tell you, he still hasn't dissapointed me. I love his writing and narration.

I don't know if I should have read something before this, but this one was available to me, so I grabbed it. I knew of Daredevil before, from that disaster of a movie, but only after Netflix's show I got interested in Daredevil more.

This story arc follows Matt Murdock as his life falls apart because of Kingpin who learns about his identity. We get to see how Matt loses everything, and almost falls into madness. The first part of the story I enjoyed immensely, but somewhere in the last third somehow everything started to fall apart. Instead of a strong finish, after that amazing story, it fell flat. Maybe if I got to know these characters before, I would have enjoyed it more, but this way I didn't really care for that ending. Introduction of Nuke and some other characters (although very cool :D ) didn't really fit in the story. I'm not sure how they contributed to this story line.

And I can't forget to mention David Mazzucchelli, who's illustrations were absolutely incredible. Not my favorite, but still amazing.

I'd love to say I could recommend this if you want to start reading Daredevil, but I just don't know. For me, as a first time Daredevil reader, it was a good start. I didn't feel confused, even though there was mention of past events. I loved this story because you get to know Matt Murdock, to see him at his lowest point in life and how he fights his enemies, but most importantly himself, was truly inspirational. I can't wait to get my hand on more Daredevil comics.
