The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen

5.0

Really wonderful book, amazingly illustrated. It was deeply cool to read the author's notes and see how much attention and deliberation was given to the character's clothing even/especially in the 'fantasyland.' It's really sweet, and talks about parents and children connecting, or sometimes children, even adult children, and the people who guide and build stories for them. I really loved it, every panel felt so intentional, including ones made just to give breathing space and a moment for both the character and reader to digest what just happened. It's amazing to see how people connect across barriers, how people can build their own languages to connect with one another, regardless of personal context, generation, or anything else. If the intention and love is there, it will land. Great story and work.
