In Her Head, In Her Eyes by Yukimi Ogawa

5.0

I really really enjoyed this short story which is available on The Book Smugglers website (http://thebooksmugglers.com/2014/10/in-her-head-in-her-eyes-by-yukimi-ogawa.html). So much so that I bought a Kindle edition of the book.

I'm a sucker for stories based on myths and this story feels like it's a myth or an old-school fairy tale (the one where happy endings are not guaranteed). I was actually surprised that it isn't a retelling of a specific myth because it feels so much like one.

This is a slow burn read. It doesn't feel like a whole lot is happening until the end when a whole lot happens. It's a perfect Halloween read because the horror creeps in slowly and, like the proverbial frog in a boiling pot, you don't realize how scary things are until it's far too late.

I suppose this isn't for everyone, but I think if you enjoy Grimm's fairytales or Japanese myths you'll enjoy this.
