The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien

Holy hell, this was boring. I thought it was a story and it was not. It's a history textbook of a fictional world and it reads exactly like it. It is dry, it is dense, and it is boring. I tried, I really really tried to get interested in it but the way I get into books is through their characters and this was like: here's a name, she died of a broken heart because she was female so why not, or you can have this one who lost her mind, ripped off all her clothes and ran through the woods like you do or this guy, whose head gets cut off two pages after he's introduced. I usually go through all the extra bits too (and started off strong with the preface and letter) but I literally cannot make myself read even a single word more about this so sorry maps and index and appendix, I will not even be glancing at you because oh my God, do I not care.
