All Souls by Christine Schutt

Many readers have complained about how disjointed the story is, and how one-dimensional the characters are. Maybe that's the point. These ultra rich society lives are disjointed and the women (characters are primarily women and girls) are so stifled that all they can express is one dimension. I think that the structure of this book portrayed these girls' lives much better than a conventional narrative.
And on a second read, there was something touching about some of their feelings "This, their habit from whenever it was allowed to walk home alone or together. Car would walk Astra to her apartment building, then Astra would turn and walk Car back to hers just to keep talking.. . ."
