Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
3.0
It took me a long, long time to read this book. There were extenuating circumstances, but part of it was also that the story didn’t grab me at first. There were a lot of characters to meet, and their backstories were unwound pretty slowly.
The idea of a heist novel was kind of fun, and I liked the banter and chemistry between the members of the crew. I think Nina and Matthias were my favorites. I loved watching Matthias realize how wrong his upbringing was by coming to terms with the fact that Nina, a Grisha, was just as human as he was.
I don’t quite know what to think of Kaz. He’s tough, and though a few cracks opened up during the story, he refused to open up to Inej and allow himself to be vulnerable, which was frustrating.
I did like it well enough to read the next book. Here’s hoping it doesn’t take as long to read.
