Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes

2.0

I’m sort of interested in reading the second book, but quite honestly this book fell way below my expectations. Most of it is mindless pining over each other, convenient plot twists and adults who are idiots. This book moves fast, but that just comes across as another thing bringing this book down in my opinion. Because most of the ideas in this book do not develop, they’re simply jumped into. Here’s an example- Princess gets away from home completely undetected by any guards, caught only by her best friend. She again reaches the neighbouring country completely undetected and without adversity despite being completely dressed like a princess amongst lowly peasants. She gets kidnapped (finally somebody recognised her!) but she is of course not kept completely guarded because of course nobody would try to rescue the princess, of course. Did I mention that she manages to escape to her country in a day and half cause her guard finds her (one she’s in love with apparently, even though there was zero development for it)? They get caught but once that little trouble is taken care of, she gets home without facing any sort of problem. It’s so convenient that we don’t touch upon how she got there other than she’s back in bed in luxury by the next chapter.

Oof, this book just came across as lazy. I’m going into the second book with lots of reservations. But maybe there will be an improvement from the first book to the second. Here’s to hoping.
