Venetia by Georgette Heyer
5.0
Ah, sometimes you need a bit of romance in your life. Especially if it comes dressed in Regency outfits and isn't Jane Austen. Not that there's a problem with Austen but she is a tad ubiquitous. I mean instead of making another film of Pride & Prejudice, Emma or Sense and Sensibility why not have a go at adapting Venetia.
It's great. Two fantastic central characters - Venetia has placed herself high in my list of female fictional heroines and Demeral has the right combination of wit and dash as to be a delight - and the supporting characters all have a certain amount of interest to them t0o, including the servants and staff. What I didn't expect of Georgette Heyer was to find her as funny as I did. But come on Venetia is a female character worth cheering on. She's not bullied or pushed into anything she doesn't want to do. She doesn't suffer fools. She's a joy.
For that reason alone this book is highly recommended.
