Be Buried in the Rain by Barbara Michaels

3.0

A good story, with many things about which I enjoy reading: skeletons, ghost stories, poetry quotations, the deep south. It has a good ending, and I would even say this falls into the genre of Southern Gothic, which is my current obsession. However, the writing is bad. It immature, the dialogue is supposed to be natural but is clunky and unrealistic, there is a decent amount of feminist comments shoehorned into random places in an ungrateful and occasionally somewhat problematic way. It lacks subtlety, craft, and eloquence, but it is well-researched and the story is interesting and creative.
