The Bookshop of Second Chances by Jackie Fraser

The premise of this book is similar to 100s of others: a woman's life falls apart (partner, work, etc) so she makes a new start in a charming rural setting. But this version felt a bit twisted, mostly because her new love interest is not particularly likeable. He's grumpy, but worse, he has spent his adult life trying to hurt his brother by sleeping with all of his girlfriends and wives.

Now normally that would set me off of a book, but that was not the case here. I'm not exactly sure why, but suspect it was because I liked the heroine (Thea) so much. She's vulnerable, but also smart, forthright, and honest. She avoids all the silly Romancelandia misunderstanding tropes by speaking her mind when it needs to be done and not shirking from important truths. Honestly, she's a breath of fresh air!
