I loved this book and its predecessor when I was in my early teens, and while I didn’t love it as much as I did back then, I have enjoyed rereading these books.

Now, I loved these books when I was younger, but I think some books just fit better with a younger audience and this series is definitely one of them.

While rereading this book, I found myself picking up on aspects that I didn’t notice when I originally read this book, including two aspects in particular.

Firstly, the characters, especially Tris and Tobias. Honestly, they were kind of insufferable at times. They both acted childish, Tobias spent pretty much the entire book being patronising, dismissive, and yelling at her while Tris spent the time swooning over Tobias and making stupid decisions.

The side characters are very two dimensional, and I can honestly say that I don’t feel invested into any of them, or the main characters.

The plot is fine, however that’s all it really is. It’s very basic, very overdone and everything about the plot in the first book that made this series different kind of just went downhill in this one for me.

Overall, I didn’t hate this book but I definitely don’t love it the way I did as a teenager.
