Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter

3.0

Karin Slaughter is certainly the queen of the dark thriller and Blindsighted is no different. It's an incredibly graphic book, so be forewarned.

I will say that this is her first book and it shows. It's certainly not as tightly written as her later books and the twists don't pack quite the same punch. Additionally, there seemed to be a bit of confusion about Sybil's (the first victim) age. At one point, the detectives mention that killers rarely attack victims outside their age range, so they peg the killer as over 40. Later, it's mentioned that Sybil is in her low 30s. This might not seem like a big issue, but I was taken out of the story several times as I tried to figure out exactly how old Sybil was.

The characters are a bit flat and the twist was weak. I didn't feel the tension that makes a solid thriller, despite the gory, graphic content. Additionally, the killer's motivation didn't make a lot of sense to me.

Overall, the book is just fine. There are flashes of Karin's later brilliance, but overall it certainly wan't as strong that it could be.
