This one ends setting things up for the next book, so while not quite cliffhanger, events are left hanging.
I read first two books as they were published when I was in middle school. I did read this a few years later while in high school, then didn’t find book 4 until many years later. That may be why first two books are nearest to my heart.
I enjoyed this reread though and have especially enjoyed the afterword author’s notes in each book, written in 2014 and telling more about the writing process for these.
