I was about to give this 3 stars because the story felt a little repetitive and predictable in between. Which makes sense because the set up is basically the same in the first book: a horseman comes & the girl tries to stop him. Plus, there were a few moments when I was genuinely annoyed at the protagonist, but after longer consideration, her actions and thoughts made sense and were right for the situation, so I came to terms with her personality.
And THEN I read the ending. I liked the way things were solved. Moreover, despite what I mentioned before, I still love the whole apocalyptic set up and the moral and emotional conflicts that it brings with it.
But what really got me was: THE LAST SENTENCE. It was so fitting. Just the right amount of creepy foreboding. And we all know how hard it is to like the last sentence of a book...
