The Ballad of Never After by Stephanie Garber
4.0
I definitely liked this one more than Ocen Upon a Broken Heart, it’s the way they slowly became something more.
I keep hoping Evangeline would transform into some badass FMC, but then I realised she doesn’t need to be badass to be badass—if you know, you know—, it’s the way she keeps believing in happily ever after even though half the world has tried to kill her at this point and it’s just her resilience for me. And then there’s Jacks that has gone through so much that I don’t even know, half of his story is a mystery throughout the whole book and then boom, everything falls into place.
But seriously, WHAT WAS THAT?! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!!! IM SO MAD AT THAT ENDING I JUST WAN TO CRY MYSELF TO SLEEP.
I wish I would’ve read this in the future, so I wouldn’t have to wait until October, because this is torture. I don’t know what the author was thinking but it cracked my emotional stability and I’ll be having a serious conversation about that end with my therapist—my best friend—. And now a couple of quotes of my husband.
“Careful,” Jacks drawled. “You’re not looking at me as if you hate me right now.”
“But I’m not getting dressed while you’re in here.”
“That’s too bad,” Jacks murmured.”
“Don’t fret, I won’t tell your husband that you’re obsessed with me.”
“Where were you?” she asked.
“I was killing innocent maidens and kicking puppies.”
“Jacks, that’s not funny.”
“Neither is what’s carved into your arm.” He glared at the words. “When did this happen?”
“Now, did you want something? Or just my attention?”
He flashed one of his dimples as his mouth formed a mocking smirk.”
“I know, love”
