The Rabbit Who Wants To Fall Asleep: A New Way of Getting Children to Sleep by Carl-Johan Forssén Ehrlin

5.0

This book is amazing! My 4 year old daughter and I have a routine of reading 3-4 books before bedtime and we both enjoy it very much. BUT.... never ever does she fall asleep as I'm reading AND afterwards there's usually about 1-2 hours of fear, bargaining, excuses, tears, back rubbing, hair rubbing, bathroom trips, thirst, hunger, and last but definitely not least utterly horrifying TANTRUMS (from both her and I) lol! I came upon this book at the library, having never heard about it previously. It is only now, after reading it to her tonight, that I am researching and reading reviews. I am completely blown away at how effective this book was at relaxing her into a beautiful, easily achieved slumber!

Yes, the over all story is boring. Yes, the construction of the sentences does read rather strangely. Yes, there is repetitious phrases. But the book does exactly what it says it will for these reasons.

My daughter started out asking questions and being a little bored through the first few pages. But, after calmly and quietly acknowledging her yet continuing to read the book she relaxed and was asleep with 3 pages left to read. I found that just as she would start to get annoyed by the repetitions, the story would then have a paragraph to get her attention again then once again start to soothe her. While we still had 3 pages left when she fell asleep, I did finish the story as the author suggests.
