This was a fun read, I enjoyed the characters and the stakes seemed reasonable for the story. A good middle grade to early high school e read for fans of Howl's Moving Castle or Séance Tea Party.
Moderate: Death and Violence
Minor: Animal death, Gun violence, Blood, Abandonment, and War
There is a panel or two depicting dead bodies - there are sheets over the bodies and they do not die on screen.
The main character often feels abandoned by her brother who left for the war
there is a brief moment in which a beetle and a gecko die during a 'circle of life' moment. They are not characters in the book.
The main character's brother has just returned from the war and has a few flashbacks to it as well as some PTSD symptoms from it but they are not focused on.
There is one scene in which the main character is threatened by a gun.
