Some People Need Killing: A Memoir of Murder in My Country by Patricia Evangelista

dark emotional informative reflective medium-paced

5.0

This is an engrossing and harrowing exploration of the Philippines' brutal war on drugs.

The author brings to life the stories of individuals affected by the extrajudicial killings, from the victims and their grieving families to the perpetrators and the political machinery enabling the violence.

What I love the most about this is ts unflinching portrayal of the grim realities faced by those on the margins of society. The author's empathetic approach ensures that the victims are not mere statistics but real people with hopes, dreams, and families.

This is a significant contribution to the discourse on human rights and justice. As a journalist, this makes me so much proud because this only proves the power of journalism to uncover truth and drive change.

A must read for everyone for this is both a sobering account of a national crisis and a call to action for accountability and reform.
