Losing It by Cora Carmack

4.0

A very quick read, the story is short and to the point. This is nice because sometimes you do just need a book that you can sit down and read in one go; this is definitely that book. However, this also leaves you wanting more. In this case, I would have liked to see have seen more of a relationship develop between Garrick and Bliss. I would have liked to have seen them get to know each other a little bit more, it's implied in some time jumps through out the story but I'd rather read about it than just be told about it. Since we didn't see that connection being built it sometimes rang false when Garrick mentions (numerous times) that he's worried about her. They do have this instant connection, which is fine-- it's fiction, I just would have liked to have seen a little more chit-chat between them.

One thing I really liked about this story was that the world building was done very well. Bliss had a group of friends and they all had histories together. Carmack did a very good job of jumping in to Bliss's world and giving us the realistic group of friends. It was also really nice to see a main character have more than one or two friends. The group of friends developed within Bliss's major was very real to life and really made a lot of the book for me.

I would have liked to have seen a little more between the last chapter and the epilogue but both the final chapter and the epilogue did a great job of bring the characters full circle and showing their development. Perhaps my favorite part of this book was that it was a one-off novel! There are two more in this series that follow characters we already know but I have no commitment to buy the next one to find out what is happening with Bliss and Garrick-- that's a nice change of pace!
