ok sarah, finally writing a review to make sure people know what they’re getting into before reading this book. descriptions of mary shelley and lord byron were hilarious and sometimes quite moving. however lots of transphobia here - not just the presence of transphobic characters but winterson makes clear in her characterization of a trans protagonist that she doesn’t know any trans people personally. there is a rape scene involving the one trans character that served absolutely no purpose. if i could ask her one question about the book it would be where did she get the idea that trans masc peoples’ nipples feel MORE post-top surgery???
