Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

3.0

I'm a little torn between 3 stars and 4 stars because I thought the story was brilliant and I loved that it contained just the right amount of humor, and characters that are well thought-out, with complex attitudes and thoughts (going beyond what would seem at first like very cliché characters, actually). What didn't do it for me what the length and the repetition... I think this book could have kept its great story development, intrigue and amazing ending, all while being way shorter. So many parts of the book don't bring any new information to the reader and it left me thinking "can we get on with this?". I have to admit I even skimmed through some pages... which I always feel guilty about (especially when the story is actually good!).
I also love it when a work of fiction manages to shed some light on a very important issue and helps its readers build empathy for victims. There is incredible power in storytelling to make us all more aware and more compassionate; I think this book does exactly that, and does it in a very admirable way.
All in all, very good read! Though some lengthy bits could I been avoided, in my opinion, it's definitely worth it.
