The Catch Me if You Can: One Woman's Journey to Every Country in the World by Jessica Nabongo

adventurous medium-paced

3.75

I had mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand I really admire the author and what she accomplished. The photos in the book are stunning and after reading it I have added some places to my bucket list. I find her though to be a little condescending. For example, I think it is presumptuous to say that one experiences more of a country in less then forty eight hours then the average "tourist" experiences in a week. Also I think
it is a huge stretch to say that one lunch in Yemen counts as going there or that visiting the Golan Heights constitutes visiting Syria.

However, I do think this is a book everyone should read. Even if the author drove me a little crazy, I found her perspective to be different especially the way she talked about passports and immigration experiences. Also there are so many interesting destinations that do not get enough attention in most mainstream travel publications/blogs/influencers that get some well deserved attention here. Its good to see the old guard of travel powers changing to add new perspectives and people.
