- Loveable characters? No
2.5
2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 - Oh Travis and Caleb, how I wanted to like your story so much more. After all the teasing of these two over the past four books, this book fell short for me.
I was so curious to see what the big conflict was between these two that tore them apart and made them hate each other but the big reveal left me feeling underwhelmed and honestly a little annoyed. The miscommunication/lack of communication trope is one of my least favorites and the main conflict in this book could have been solved by a 5 minute conversation, which annoyed me to no end. Travis and Caleb had SO much potential - their characters are interesting but I don’t think they were fully fleshed out here and I really disliked the reveal that they’ve been stepbrothers all along. It felt unnecessary and I think the story would have been better without it.
Usually the best parts of these books are seeing the rest of the princes, but I feel like we didn’t really get much of that here either. Honestly, I just felt back for JT - Caleb didn’t tell him about his history with the princes from the beginning and he just got blindsided by someone he thought was on his side all along.
Still interested in East’s story next…he’s the one I’ve been waiting for so fingers crossed it lives up to all the hype.
