I preferred the story in the first book of the series, but if you read the first book, you need to read this one to find out what happens. The setting is better in this book, as you get to spend a lot of time in the past, but the storyline for the first book is basically negated by what the characters must do in this book, so I feel like all the work that came before this was for nothing.
