Olive, Again by Elizabeth Strout

4.0

Olive Kitteridge is back in all her crotchety glory, rarely holding back what she really thinks - which is actually quite refreshing. Olive could have been portrayed as grating and while she can be quite gruff, we actually get to see some of her softer edges as the author allows us an inside look at Olive's thoughts and feelings as she navigates a second marriage, repairing her relationship with her adult son and grandchildren, and growing older in a small town. Sometimes described as a narcissist, Olive is actually quite self aware and is even willing to allow her mind to be changed. Olive plays a central role in many of the characters we meet (from teens and young women, to the local estate attorney, former teaching colleagues and even some new friends), that is was bittersweet to leave Olive and Crosby, Maine at the end of this novel.
