Provoked by Rebecca Zanetti

4.5♥s

Kane Kayrs's brother Jase has been imprisoned by demons and tortured--physically and mentally--for four years when Provoked opens. The Kayrs brothers need a demon destroyer to help rescue him, but they believe they are extinct. Until their trackers find the only known demon destroyer in existence. Kane--the brilliant, logical, socially challenged brother--has been given the task of retrieving her.

Amber Freebird has been raised in an eco-village as a vegan pacifist and doesn't know that vampires and demons exist, let alone that she's a demon destroyer. When Kane talks to her about vampires and demons, she thinks he's crazy and tries to escape him. But when demons attack, she has no choice but to believe her own eyes. When her grandmother is threatened, she agrees to help Kane in exchange for her grandmother's safety. But can they find Jase before he succumbs to the demons' torture?

As they work together, Amber begins to fall for the sexy vampire. She believes in love and romance. Kane wants to mate her, but he doesn't believe in love. How can they ever find happiness with such a disparity?

♥♥♥

"I'm all brain, no heart."
Kane is a genius, yet he doesn't understand the way Amber makes him feel. He stubbornly approaches his relationship with Amber rationally, like a business decision. The genius has a lot to learn. You'll love him for it. Rationally, of course.

"This isn't about thinking. This is about feeling."
Amber reads romance novels, and believes in love and that heroines create their own happy endings. Kane thinks "She's smart, sexy, and dedicated to what she believes in." She believes in pacifism, and yet she finds herself in the middle of a war.

Janie, Zane and Kalin's story continues in Provoked. Janie is now twenty, and old enough to start making decisions that will affect the fate of the world. Zane is as sexy and mysterious as ever. Kalin is a very bad boy who rides the knife-edge of redemption.

Provoked is a page-turner. I could never find a good place to put the book down, so I kept reading and reading. I laughed, I cried, I was anxious for them to find Jase before it was too late, and I desperately wanted Kane and Amber to be happy.

I won't tell you whose book is next, as that would spoil the ending of Provoked. Suffice it to say that we have a good story to look forward to. Look for an official announcement of the next book within the next month of this posting.

In the meantime, enjoy Provoked!
