The Love Curse of Melody McIntyre by Robin Talley

3.0

Turned out a lot better than it started. It’s very cute, and very ‘high school.’ It reads kind of like a Disney Channel sitcom. Actually, it’d probably make a great Nickelodeon or Disney show!

I will note for those interested that this book contains gay characters, prominent black characters, and I am so happy for that. Yay for more books featuring POC that aren’t for specific historical/racial purposes and featuring queer characters and NOT making a big deal about it! More books should include this type of diversity.

It’s a bit far-fetched. The scenarios are insane, but that adds to the charm of the story. I wasn’t entirely happy that the premise in the beginning of the story is about a 17yo’s sex life. I don’t think any book should be showcasing the love lives of minors. I tried to just ‘ignore’ this, but it continued to bother me. Thankfully once Part 2 starts that aspect goes away for the most part.

If you’re a theater/musical/Broadway lover, this book is RIGHT up your ally. Made my little thespian heart happy.

Received my hard cover copy from the Spearcraft Book Box.
