Giant Days Vol. 1 by John Allison, Whitney Cogar

5.0

This is a fun and quirky graphic novel. The tone of this graphic novel is witty and fun, even when the content got a little heavy, the tone did not reflect it, instead kept things light, so the the story did not become preachy.

The illustrations reflect the fun nature of the graphic novel. There are exaggerated facial expressions, possibly unrealistic actions (but funny), and bright colors. The coloring was very well done: crisp, clean, and bright, to showcase this entertaining novel.

The characters were definitely distinct, including the side characters because of there different personalities, looks, and hobbies. The three main characters also have an amazing friendship that does not revolve around men or romance, which is great! These healthy female friendships are ones young readers need to read more about. Also, the issues the characters face such as a cold, sleazy guys, and drinking legally are ones most college students will encounter, so the realistic way the events and characters are written is fantastic. Even the side guy characters are written well as normal regular guys.

I absolutely LOVED this GN. As soon as I finished reading it, I went and requested the next ones from the library.
