Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
2.0
I feel like I've been lied to by the entire BookTube and Goodreads community. Goes to show - can't trust anyone these days. What the hell happened people?
This book was on my shelf for a solid month. Maybe I was waiting for a stranger to break into my apartment so that I can beat them with this behemoth. No, I think it was my inner reader self telling me to stay away from the hype. I should have listened.
The writing is pretentious. Beautiful prose is meant to connect you with the world and characters, instead I felt floating further and further away. In close to 600 pages, Laini Taylor managed to tell a story that actually takes 200 pages. I'm not kidding. Kids, jump to the last third of the book - you'll get the gist.
