Boys of the Dead by Douji Tomita

4.0

WILD. I don't pick up horror manga very often, but this was published by Kuma so I had to. Speaking of the cover/naked cover of this is gorgeous. Kuma is always serving the best and I'm excited for them to pick up and release more titles. Especially because they tend to pick up the more "problematic" or taboo titles. This is not an exception. This manga contains: cannibalism, sexual assault, possible pedophilia (not sure about the age of the character because of the twist), and incest. And it's pretty graphic when it comes to violence.

Boys of the Dead is a collection of stories of boys and men living in a world where a virus has caused people to become zombies. These were great oneshots. I'm always craving more when I read one shots, but these I think fit perfectly in their contained stories. I still want more, but I can appreciate the way these are told. Some of the twists are predictable, but they still shook me a little. I liked the sort of dark, dirty, and ugly way the art was. Ugly in a good way. The details were great. Also liked that the author included summaries of rejected stories and why they didn't get picked. I thought that was interesting.

I think my favorite story was the one with Connor and Linus. I do wish we got more from the first story, because I'm pretty sure the kidnapper from that story was the cop from Linus's story and I want more info on him. Like what's his deal? But other than that I liked that these were left open ended. What happens to them is just left to your imagination.

This was more horror than BL, but it's labeled as BL so I'm marking it as such. Definitely something worth picking up though.
