#ENTRYLEVELBOSS: How to Get Any Job You Want by Alexa Shoen
5.0
Yes. Yes. Yes. YES!! If only this book had been published nine months ago...
I first learned about Alexa Shoen and #ELB while perusing LinkedIn for fun (as job seekers do)--she's a fellow Notre Dame alum and was featured on the ND start-up/innovation page, the IDEA Center. Such sweet serendipity.
Shoen's advice is refreshing, real, and effective. I also laughed a lot (see quote below).
Interestingly, I was reading this book while also participating in weekly Fulbright "Securing the Next Job" seminars, which left me feeling deflated because it was the same bland advice I'd been internalizing and applying without success for months.
Now, I feel equipped to approach the job search confidently and constructively. Wish me luck!!
During my undergrad, the career center asked if I was interested in teaching elementary school. I said no. They asked if I wanted to pursue law school. I said no. Their final suggestion was ti sign up for missionary work in Africa. And I'm, like, not Catholic. When I finished a master's in music, nobody suggested anything at all.
