The Princess Game by Soman Chainani

4.0

This is a modern-day re-imagined adult version of an amalgamation of classic fairy tales. This one pits princes against princesses and becomes a murder mystery. At Chaminade High, several young girls, some of the "princesses" of the school, have turned up dead. Fingers are pointing toward the young, handsome jocks mostly known as the princes of the school. Undercover agents who have been working within the school for some time as a bumbling Chemistry teacher and a new jock in school are interrogating the boys in hopes of a confession or at least a clue as to which boy has been doing the deed. What the men uncover is a caste system among the students leaving motive for everyone.

This short story is writing in a playscript style. I don't think that was necessary and didn't add anything to the story. Made it seem like lazy writing because all you had to do was write the dialogue. Despite that, the story itself was well written and highlights the issues with bullying within schools and how class systems are created in all types of human settings.
