Sex, Time, and Power: How Women's Sexuality Shaped Human Evolution by Leonard Shlain

3.0

it took me 10 years to finish this book and it was like interesting. mostly it felt pretty speculative and was written in the early 2000s (by a man who is not an anthropologist or evolutionary biologist, but a surgeon) so there’s a lot of heteronormativity but a lot of interesting ponderings.
favorite quote: The jazz-era pianist Fats Waller best captured men‘s fascination with a woman‘s subcutaneous fat deposits when he crooned‘ “It must be jelly, ’cause jam don’t shake like that.“
