Grandma D's Bubbles by Debra Joy Hart

2.0

This self-published picture book about coping with loss gets ALMOST everything right. Grandma D is sweet, and the illustrations, while a bit crude at times, are evocative and get the message across. My main issue comes at the end, when young Sophia tells Grandma that she "doesn't feel sad anymore" about the loss of her aunt after Grandma D's parable. To me that's just silly and also could be harmful: even when we feel at peace with a loved one's death, we still feel sad, and that's ok! I felt the book set up an unreasonable expectation that there are shortcuts to no longer feeling grief.
