Off With Their Heads!: All the Cool Bits in British History by Martin Oliver, Andrew Pinder

informative lighthearted fast-paced

1.5

Grossly glosses over British colonial history and all the suffering the British Empire has brought upon many Native people. While it is a children’s book, some of British history is so simplified it becomes unrecognizable and portrayed through a very pro-British and pro-Empire lens. If you want to argue that atrocities are left out due to it being for children, you would be wrong, because many battles, tragedies and casualties of war are mentioned in great detail, as well as how people were tortured and executed in the middle ages.
Other than that, the bits about the royals and numerous succession fights were quite entertaining and it gives a broad overview over British history.
It is also very easy to read and thus suited for children.
