Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier

3.0

I LOVE Daphne Du Maurier, Rebecca and My Cousin Rachel were two of the most gripping reads. Jamaica Inn fell a little flat though. Don't get me wrong, the vivid descriptions of The Moors are terrifying and Mary is an excellent female lead. However, I predicted the ending about a third of the way into the book, and the dialogue was so stilted and unrealistic - even for a early 20th century novel, that I couldn't overly relate to any of the characters. The romantic story line thrown in had me groaning for Mary to run flat in the other direction. I enjoyed it, but not as much as Du Maurier's other works.
